Ever looked at empty car parks around the city, taking up valuable space, and lamented for the green grass that could - or should - be there instead? Well, you are not alone... and something has been done about it! And next year RecruitR will be right in the middle of it all!

What started as a mission to raise awareness of the lack of green space in downtown San Francisco has become an internationally recognised event. Now in its sixth year, PARK(ing) Day is held in major cities such as London, New York, Los Angeles and, since 2008, Brisbane.

Last month, on Friday 17 September, you may have stumbled upon car parks in Brisbane's central areas - such as St Lucia, West End, South Bank, Fortitude Valley, Newfarm, Newstead and the CBD - that had been transformed into green, lush, and inviting "people parks". Just as you would for a car, different organisations and welfare groups around Brisbane, and the world, fed parking meters to "rent" a public space for locals to relax and congregate.

There is a serious side to this fun day though. The organisers hope PARK(ing) Day raises awareness of the importance of green spaces in and around the city centres, and to get people excited and motivated to create a sustainable future.

So, next year, September 17, look out for PARK(ing) Day in your area - or - look US up and come check out OUR space. In the meantime, check out some of the concepts & designs from years past on the official website
